Seven Champions .. Jinks in the middle CH DRAKESLEAT ‘Ai JINKSJinks born on the 6/6/82 was the 4th Drakesleat Champion bitch in direct line from the first dachshund Ch who was Hussy. Her dam Ch ‘Ai Jail became the breed record holder when taking over from her grandmothers brother, Ch Drakesleat Klunk Klick of Andyc.. 27 CCs and still the Top winning male today. Jinks’ first big win came at 13mths old at Bournemouth with second in the Hound Group, to the top winning hound that year. She won her first CC, Best of Breed and the Hound Group at Leicester under Ann Argyle and Carole Appleton respectively. Her second & third CC’s came quickly at Birmingham City, judge John Elkington, and the Lancs & Ches. Dachs under Roy Metcalfe, where she also won reserve BIS.. Many honours followed including Top Min Wire 4 times, 5 group 1, and Reserve BIS all breeds (also at Leicester 5 years later!), she was also BIS at the prestigious Hound Show, and had quite a few Club BIS wins. Jinks’ qualified for the Pedigree Champion finals, & won the Hound bitch of the year trophy twice I think. The first time she broke the breed record was in 1989 at Manchester under Geoffrey Farrand, which took the record from Ai Jail. Then her close rival Sally Ann Elkington’s Ch Sutina Barclay Charm headed her with CC number 32, so we decided to give Jinks a couple more shows.. She equalled at 3 Counties and then with me shaking like a jelly took the record at Blackpool under Derek Smith. She was retired having won 33 CCs over a 7 year period, in-between producing two litters, which contained the famous duo Ch Easy Come & Am Ch Easy Go, both of which had considerable influence on both sides of the Atlantic. Jinks was a delight to own, never causing us a moments trouble, she lived to a great age, and her many Champion descendants have done the prefix Drakesleat proud.
